5. Gregoriant chant Dynamics?

Answer:

monophonic, or unison, liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church, used to accompany the text of the mass and the canonical hours, or divine office. Gregorian chant is named after St. Gregory I, during whose papacy (590–604) it was collected and codified. Charlemagne, king of the Franks (768–814), imposed Gregorian chant on his kingdom, where another liturgical tradition—the Gallican chant—was in common use. During the 8th and 9th centuries, a process of assimilation took place between Gallican and Gregorian chants; and it is the chant in this evolved form that has come down to the present.

Explanation:

Gregorian chants fall into two broad categories of melody: recitatives and free melodies. The simplest kind of melody is the liturgical recitative. Recitative melodies are dominated by a single pitch, called the reciting tone. Other pitches appear in melodic formulae for incipits, partial cadences, and full cadences.

Answer:

Gregorian chant, monophonic, or unison, liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church, used to accompany the text of the mass and the canonical hours, or divine office. Gregorian chant is named after St. Gregory I, during whose papacy (590–604) it was collected and codified.

Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic, unaccompanied sacred song in Latin (and occasionally Greek) of the Roman Catholic Church. Gregorian chant developed mainly in western and central Europe during the 9th and 10th centuries, with later additions and redactions.

Monophonic plainchant was named after Pope Gregory I, who made this the approved music of the Catholic Church. During the latter part of the Medieval Period, secular music which was not bound by Catholic traditions emerged.

This Frankish-Roman Carolingian chant, augmented with new chants to complete the liturgical year, became known as "Gregorian." Originally the chant was probably so named to honour the contemporary Pope Gregory II, but later lore attributed the authorship of chant to his more famous predecessor Gregory the Great.

Pope Gregory I, also known as Gregory the Great, is one of the most important figures in the history of the papacy. So revered were his deeds that he was later canonized as a saint and is known within the church to this day as Saint Gregory.

Gregory I is known most principally for his general demeanor of selflessness. He had no interest in the power or influence that came with the papacy and instead constantly lamented the burden of the office that had ripped him away from his life of quiet prayer and contemplation. Gregory I was known to be very generous with alms, and he dictated that, besides the bare minimum required to keep the church running, all donations given to the church would be given once again as alms to the poor and unfortunate.

Many historical terms, events, and aspects of the church are attributed to Gregory I. The Gregorian Mission refers to the first large-scale mission from Rome to England in an attempt to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity.

22. poem about gregory the great

Answer:

Saint Gregory the Great

by John Gray

Where epochs touch a giant figure stands,

White soul and ardent heart; a man among

Men great in thought and deed; whose suasive tongue

Strengthened the instruments of his commands.

And while his thoughts on others' lips, in hands

Not his his strength, taught, guided, counselled, wrung

The crooked straight, he meekly trained the young

To bear his faith to undiscovered lands.

God gave him plenitude of power and sense;

Fulfilled his soul with loveliness and light;

That Christ through him might rule from sea to sea.

Great charge was his, and great the recompense.

Great upon earth, he is greater in His sight

Whose work made great the name of Gregory.
